writings about resilience and life celebration by Claudia Guerin

GIFT

What would you give to
The One that had given you all,
without invoice included,
not stamped envelope attached,
not even a “here you go” note?
Giving it all with nothing in exchange.
What forgotten novelty for these
troubling times we all must brave!
The vital opportunity to
walk among the trees
instead being plugged to an IV, and
collect kisses, flowers and stars
In lieu of purple blasts and falling hairs.
I’ve stopped speculating about your reasons time ago;
It doesn’t matter anymore,
but I deeply wish it wasn’t out of grief
because I wasn’t there to hug you and
nurse your tears.
I wish you too be happy, and
- wherever life may take you -
always walk among the trees, and
collect kisses
and flowers
and stars.
